                 Reading with the Baradene Girls

Over terms 3 and 4 a class of Year 8 girls from Baradene have been working on a project in their creative writing class. Their aim was to write a book for  "an authentic audience." Their audience was US!
The girls came in term 2 and interviewed the children. They were asked about their likes and dislikes and their hobbies and interests. Then away the girls went to write their book.
The girls came back yesterday to share their finished work ... and WOW!! The books are amazing.
The work that they put into the stories and the presentation is incredible - over 50 hours! Team 10 were chuffed to have stories written about them.

We spent a lovely morning listening to the girls read the stories to us and we were allowed to keep the books too!
Feel free to come in and look at their amazing work!

                                 Surf to School

Last week the Surf to School lifeguards came to school to talk to Team 10 about keeping safe at the beach and safe in the sun.
Team 10 learnt about the jobs of the lifeguards, how to recognise them on the beach, how to stay safe around water and how to be sunsmart.
Here's Louie getting ready to perform a rescue

Louie is about to rescue Inez who has got caught in a rip

The lifeguards showed us their 'mini' IRB ... Can you remember what IRB stands for?

The rescue tube that is attached around a person's body when they are being rescued.

Cooper is showing us where to  swim safely.

Have a great summer at the beach, remember the beach safety rules and be                         sunsmart !!

                                            DRAMA!!

This week we've had Megan and Fiona in working with the Junior Syndicate.
They have been teaching us about expression, movement, working at different levels, working as a team, developing confidence and using our imagination.

We worked as team and made all sorts of different shapes  .... Do you reconise any?

The Howick Historical Village

As part of our Term 4 Inquiry, the Year 2's have been learning about toys from the past. We went and visited the Howick Historical Village and learnt how the children from the early 1900's coped without a computer screen!
We played indoor games and had fun trying all the outdoor activities.

As you can see it was a great day, the children AND the parents who came had a super time and the discussions and learning that has taken place back at school have been interesting ... I'm not sure if many of Team 10 would be able to cope without a screen if they were transported back to the 1900's!!

Pacific Mamas at VAS

On Tuesday the Pacific Mamas visited the Junior Syndicate.
We learnt about their customs and culture, through weaving headbands, dancing, drumming and listening to traditional legends. It was a great morning, full of fun, laughter and learning.

China: Using Chopsticks

As part of our Inquiry study this term, we are learning about how children live in other countries.
Kai, Vanessa, and Alexis worked with groups, showing the children how to use chopsticks.
It is a very tricky skill to master!
Well done everyone for giving it a go and not giving up!

Art: Maui and the Sun

We have been reading lots of legends about Maui.
He was an amazing boy: fishing up New Zealand, changing into birds, designing fishhooks, bringing fire to the world and slowing down the sun.
After we read Maui and the Sun, we wrote about him and drew the sun using chalk pastels.
It was very messy and there was dust everywhere, but, WOW! Aren't the results amazing!
Come into Team 10 and have a look at the rest of our Maui Suns.

Welcome to Room 10's Classroom Blog.

We are a lively bunch of Year 2 children from Victoria Avenue School, Remuera, Auckland, New Zealand.
